Serena Williams has never talked about retirement.

She has always used a different term: evolution. After the splendid adventure on the concrete of Flushing Meadows, seasoned among other things by the victory against the world number two Anett Kontaveit, the twenty-three time Grand Slam champion has decided to hang up the racket.

Or rather, to stop playing and always leave a door open when returning. During the Jimmy Fallon Night Show the US champion did not bar the door to a hypothetical return, exploiting, among other things, the parallelism with Tom Brady.

“What I mean is that it has given birth to a fantastic trend. Anyway, there are a lot of things that I have not been able to do and that I would like to do in these years, but I am not going to relax, I just want to start enjoying the things.”

A few days later, Serena explained her words during another television interview: “What I meant is that you never know. A few days ago I talked to Tom Brady, about his story. What he did and how he did it was very beautiful.

I think everyone will agree with me. Tennis has given me a lot and I don’t see myself far from this sport in the future. I would like to do something. I don’t know what yet, but I know it’s my sport and I’d really love to stay connected to this world in the future.

It has simply been a light in my life and I want to continue to hold it tight.”
