“With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favourite moments.
“We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers.”
In Australia, the series will return to Channel 10 for first-run episodes but will be available a week later on Amazon Prime Video, which will also host the series for viewers in New Zealand and Canada.
Devotees of the soap in the UK and US will be able to watch it on Amazon Freevee.
“Neighbours is a unique series with a powerful connection with its fans across the world,” Jennifer Mullin, global CEO of production company Fremantle, said in the announcement.
“We cherish the show and all those who have been part of its incredible story over many decades, so we are thrilled that we have found a new home with Amazon Freevee.”
Neighbours will go back into full production early next year, with new episodes to roll out later in the year.
The show – which produced nearly 9000 episodes and created Hollywood stars including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth and Guy Pearce, as well as singers Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia – first announced the end of production in March after UK TV network Channel 5 ended its deal to air the show in the UK, which was vital to the production of the series.

A tearful final episode, with plenty of cameos from old cast members, aired on July 28 to much praise from fans for how neatly the storyline was tied up.
Where the new series will pick up from remains a mystery at this stage.
