H.E.R. has been cast as Belle in the ABC’s upcoming Beauty & the Beast special – and she’s thrilled about it!
“I can’t believe I get to be a part of the Beauty & the Beast legacy,” the 5-time Grammy winner and Academy Award winner shared in a statement. “The world will see a Black and Filipino Belle!”
She added that she’s “always wanted to be a Disney princess” and is so “grateful” for the role.

The TV network announced the special earlier this month to mark the film’s 30th anniversary. Jon M. Chu is serving as executive producer with Hamish Hamilton directing.
“With her obvious extraordinary talent and stage presence, H.E.R. is the perfect embodiment of our Belle and we are thrilled for audiences to see her in this celebration of creativity,” Chu says in a statement.
The special will air on ABC in the U.S. on December 15 and will be available to stream worldwide through Disney+ the following day.
